What's This?

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner! That means that the outdoor activities are back after spending the last few months in hibernation. Spring and summer barbecues and parties are what make these the best seasons of the year. But getting together with all your friends just isn’t a party unless you are playing some sort of game, right?

Dodgeball and Cornhole are two of the most fun games that you can play in your backyard. And the best part about them is that you can make up your own rules, turn them into a drinking game or whatever you want to do with them. They are the ultimate social activities!

What Does Dodgeball Benefit?

You definitely don’t want to be the host that wears everyone out by organizing strenuous activities at your gathering. But dodgeball is so fun that you really don’t even realize you’re tired until the game is over. That’s why it’s the perfect summertime game because you can just jump in the pool once you’re done playing.

In a way, it can bring your friends together by playing a friendly game. Building strong teamwork is essential to taking down the opponent, so just watch how quickly teammates gel together when playing dodgeball.

If you’ve never played before, you basically get a handful of rubber balls, divide teams up, draw a line down the middle of the yard that the opposing team can’t cross, and try to hit the opponents with the balls. If you hit someone, they have to sit out. The last team with a person left standing is declared the winner.

Of course, there are many variations to the game, and the rules can be adjusted based on the age or skill sets of the players. It’s a game of skill and hand-eye coordination, but it’s also a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the sunshine with your friends.

Cornhole is More Fun Than it Sounds

A lot of people haven’t heard of the game “cornhole,” but it is rapidly gaining in popularity. Think of it as a hybrid between horseshoes and washers. You play with beanbags (filled with corn, allegedly) and a couple of boards with a hole cut at the top of them. The object of the game is to throw the bags into the hole to make a “cornhole.” Sounds simple, right?

Well, it’s not quite as easy as it looks. If you want to follow the official rules, then you’ll be throwing the beanbags from a distance of about 30-feet away. That’s a pretty far distance to be chunking a 1-lb beanbag to try to get it in a hole. The simple rules are…if you get the beanbag in the hole, you get three points. If you get the beanbag to stay on the board, you get one point. Any beanbag that doesn’t at least land on the board does not qualify for points. The first team to 21-points wins.

Whew, how can such a simple game have so many aspects to it? Well, it doesn’t have to. When you’re playing with your friends, it really is as simple as throwing a beanbag into a hole. Where it gets interesting is when you turn it into a drinking game. For example, every time you throw a cornhole, your opponent has to take a drink. Choose your partner wisely!

Dodgeball and cornhole are going to be two of the most popular activities to play this spring and summer. Get outside and enjoy the sun while you can and share some pretty great memories playing these fun games with your friends!
