What's This?

In this grand life we all lead, there’s always eternal, existential questions that we ask ourselves.

“What is the meaning of life?” “How many roads must a man walk down?” “Do I need a custom bowling ball?” You know, general philosophy stuff.

To the outsider, custom bowling balls may seem like a strange concept. After all, why own your own personal bowling ball when you can use the same ball that hundreds of other strangers have used? It’ll go perfect with the shoes that hundreds of other people have worn. (Maybe I just answered my own question.) However, others have decided they’d prefer a ball of their own. So let’s take a look at a few pros and cons of choosing custom bowling balls.

First off, a custom bowling ball will most likely improve your game. Because you can get the measurements perfect for your fingers, you’ll feel a lot more control and probably help your overall score. You can also get a higher quality ball than is available at the alley, but it may cost a bit more.

Additionally, as I mentioned, a whole lot of people have used those alley balls. If you’re even a mild germaphobe, this will be your ultimate nightmare. Unless you want to use hand sanitizer after every turn, you may just want to consider a bowling ball of your own.

However, let’s also look at the cons. Or con, as it were. Custom bowling balls cost money. Wait, don’t go yet! Let me finish. While custom bowling balls cost money, they aren’t nearly as expensive as you’d think. Looking around, the custom balls seemed to range anywhere from $75 to $200 and up. Of course, those prices will range with quality and you will have to pay for drilling the holes, but it is a surprisingly low amount to own your own custom ball.

Additionally, let’s talk aesthetics. Just by searching “custom bowling balls” on Google you will see a number of different looking bowling ball types. Everything from Tinkerbell to zombies to….Albert Einstein? Well, if you’re a real Einstein fanboy and want the whole world (or bowling alley?) to know it, I guess that’s the way to go. To be honest, I’d be totally fine with a zombie Tinkerbell Albert Einstein ball.

I guess it all comes down to the other existential question we must all ask ourselves every once in awhile: what kind of bowler are you? Are you a casual bowler that cares more about the delicious bowling alley fries than your score? Or are you a seasoned veteran of the alley, looking for the perfect ball that matches your professional style?

With that in mind, how you approach the game will affect your need for a custom bowling ball. Knowing your level and how you approach the game of bowling will help you decide your need for a custom bowling ball. And if you decide to go with that Albert Einstein ball – no judgement here.
